Coach quote on Performance:

“Aydin has not missed a training session during the 2017/2018 senior preseason. His early season form has earned him selection in the Premier Division team. In his first game in the Premier Division team he featured in our top 3 players. His work ethic and discipline for his club is outstanding, shows great composure with the football and is continually developing his skills. Wests are very lucky to have a junior of Aydin’s skill and commitment come through its junior ranks and play premier division for the club.”

AFL Sydney Women’s Round Four Rising Star nominee

Name:  Sarah Yatim

Nickname:  Yatz

AFL Sydney Club:  Auburn – Penrith Giants

She has played with the Western Sydney Wanderers in the W-League in 2016/2017, FFA Futsal National League, Australian Oz Tag squad, cricket for Balmain and also amateur boxing.

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?  Sarah is an asset to the Auburn-Penrith midfield taking strong contested marks, backing herself in attack and kicking a few goals under pressure. She dominates her opponents with smart football and although she is learning about the game as she plays, her football background proves useful across the ground. She brings a good vibe to the team, she’s focused and an easygoing team mate.

The night before the game what will they most likely be doing?  A nice early dinner and watching a movie.

Do they have any pre-game superstitions?  No real superstitions, other than wearing her favourite blue Nike sports bra

Reason for nomination this round: Sarah is a highly focused, committed and exciting player. In just her fourth AFL game, she dominated the play in the Giants win over Southern Power, was voted Best on Ground ahead of AFLW listed players and booted two goals. A lovely kick that hits targets and a huge motor who plays maximum match time.

Coach quote on Performance:

“Sarah Yatim has been a revelation and a welcomed addition to our Premier Division playing squad in season 2018. Sarah is well regarded amongst her peers and coaching staff which make her a very popular character at our football club.

While still in a development phase Sarah is a consistent performer and prides herself on her individual performance and the impact she can have on other developing players within our football program and female system. Sarah epitomises the core values of our playing group a humble footballer who demonstrates an exciting brand of football that will hopefully see her placed amongst the elite.

In only her fourth game and first season within an AFL environment she is only going to go from strength to strength and will be well placed to end up within the top tier category of midfielders in the competition.”
