AFL Sydney Rising Star nominees – Round Two

Men’s Round Two Rising Star nominee

Name: Marco Rossmann

Nickname: Rozzo, Polo

AFL Sydney Club: UNSW Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs

Position: Midfielder/Forward

Junior Club: East Sydney Bulldogs

Favourite activity to do outside of football: Eat dad’s homemade pasta and hang out with mates

What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club? Try to one-up the older blokes and being a nuisance

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field? Giving my best at everything I do, being one of the youngest in the side, encourage other U19s players to push themselves in order to be selected for a spot in the Premier Division side week in week out.

The night before the game what will they most likely be doing? Eating plenty of healthy food, listening to music and surrounding myself with close friends and family.

Do they have any pre-game superstitions? Kick a tennis ball against a wall for a few minutes with no shoes on, pretending I am Del Piero.

Reason for nomination this round:

“Debuting for the club and being our youngest player on the ground Marco looked very comfortable and played a terrific game for us. His attack on the ball, running capacity and composure with ball in hand was of a very high quality. Because of this he was thrown into an inside midfield roll after half time and was a key reason why we were able to outlast our opponents and secure the win in the last quarter.”

Coach quote on Performance:

“Marco is one of a number of our young players under the swans academy programme. He played a fantastic game for the club against Inner Wests and with his ability to win one on one contests, run all day, and use the ball effectively he was crucial in the team being able to run over the top of Inner West in the final quarter.”

Women’s Round Two Rising Star nominee

Name: Zoe Hurrell

Nickname: Zuz

AFL Sydney Club: Sydney University Bombers

Position: Midfield

Junior Club: Mosman Swans

Favourite activity to do outside of football: Snowboarding or going to the beach

What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club? Goes through a roll of tape every week

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field? Trying to develop my confidence at senior level and be a good example on field through my actions

The night before the game what will they most likely be doing? Having a decent feed, watching the footy and sleeping

Do they have any pre-game superstitions? Never puts sunscreen on

Reason for nomination this round:

“Zoe put in a best on ground performance in her debut Premier Division match for Sydney University. Her ability to win the ball in the midfield and clean delivery into the forward line set up many goals. Zoe read the play well, took the game on and showed great composure when under pressure”.

Coach quote on Performance:

“Zoe is a skillful and intelligent footballer. Her dedication and commitment to training and improving her game was evident throughout preseason. Zoe is a great team player who has slotted right into our midfield. It was a joy to see her take to the field in the blue and gold for the first time. Zoe is an exciting footballer; I’m looking forward to seeing her realise her potential and play many more games for Sydney Uni.”
