Boy, Oh Boy Wowee of the Week – Round Seven

ROUND SEVEN WINNER

Stevie J’s miracle no-look goal from the boundary line of the forward pocket.

In case you hadn’t heard, a player named Steven Johnson joined the Manly Warringah Men’s Premier Division side last week. Rumour has it this guy won three AFL Premierships, a Norm Smith Medal and had three All Australian selections in a 293 game AFL career. Almost two years after hanging up the boots he decided to come out of retirement and bring his talents to Curl Curl beach. No one knew what to expect when he first took to the field but it turns out he still has some left in the tank.

The Steve Johnson of old was back and slotting goals from all areas of the park. But he wasn’t going to leave the game without stamping down a signature Stevie J Wowee. It came in the fourth quarter when he snapped one in from the boundary line, right in front of a cheer squad consisting of Swans players. As soon as the ball drifted through the goal posts he was met with a loud ovation from the stunned crowd and his cheer squad drenching him in water and beer. It couldn’t have been scripted better and everyone in attendance knew they had witnessed something special.

Stevie ended the day with three goal assists, five goals, 27 touches and thousands of views, likes and comments on social media as the footage went viral.
