Boy, Oh Boy Wowee of the Week – Round Nine

ROUND NINE WINNER

UNSW Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs for their get together with 40 old and existing players at Bondi Junction RSL to wish Michael “Raffles” Blaimschein a speedy recovery in his fight with cancer.

Raffles has been involved with East Sydney, Eastern Suburbs and UNSW Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs for the last 50 years as a volunteer. The nickname Raffles comes from his days selling the old chook raffle to raise funds for the club. He became well known around the local watering holes such as The Grand National and the old East Sydney Bulldogs licensed club in Birrell Street, Bondi Junction.

Among other duties, Raffles’ principle role within the club for the best part of  the last 50 years has been the Team Manager for the Reserve grade side. He’s also been washing all the club jumpers each week with his wife Magdna.

Raffles is well known by most opposition clubs and could regularly be seen, in more recent times, watching games beside the Village Green’s Sam Cracknell Grandstand while enjoying a beer and mixing cordial for the quarter time breaks.

Nomination: Paul Simonson, UNSW Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs
