AFL Sydney Women’s Rising Star – Round Five Nominee

This week’s nominee has been described by her fellow club mates as a silent assassin. Small in stature and always smiling, Hannah Woolf often catches opponents off guard with her hard nose style of football. Woolf by name, Wolf by nature, Hannah is always hungry for the footy and known for landing some of the hardest tackles on the field.

In a close contest against North Shore in Round 5, Hannah was a difference maker, continuously putting her body on the line to win 50/50 possessions and landing countless tackles throughout the contest. As a result, the Wolves came away with a narrow 2 point victory and Woolf has come away as the AFL Sydney Women’s Rising Star nominee for Round 5.

Name: Hannah Woolf

Nickname: Woolfy

Position: Midfield

Junior Club: Forest Lions

Favourite activity to do outside of football:

Painting, eating and sleeping!

What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club?

Woolfy is the silent assassin. Super committed to her football, she is so eager to learn and constantly looking for ways to better her footy. She is a little pocket rocket and silent assassin on the field. Small in stature, she packs a punch and sure knows how to lay a solid bump and an epic tackle!

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?

Woolfy is a strong midfielder and small forward. She has just started playing senior footy this year and is crushing it. A big friendly smile both on and off the field, she is dedicated and committed and truly embodies the Wolfpack spirit and values.

The night before the game what will they most likely be doing?

Eating lots and lots of pasta and heading to bed early for a good, long nights sleep. Preparation is key!

Do they have any pre-game superstitions?

Hair washed the night before so it is sparkling clean. Woolfy also straps both wrists, purely as a superstition!

Nomination Details

Reason for nomination this round:

Woolfy played the full game in round 5, she was responsible for many clean centre clearances from the midfield and forward 50 entries. The youngest player on the field by far, she was a consistent performer and a tackling machine. Woolfy would be up there in the top 3 for total number of tackles laid throughout the game. Against tough opponents, she stood her ground despite being young and smaller in stature. She is not afraid and threw everything at the game against North Shore Bombers.

Coach quote on Performance:

“What a machine. I am so proud of the energy, passion and hard at the ball attitude Woolfy brings to our squad. She is always first to the ball, puts her body on the line and works for all the 1%’ers. Round 5 saw her continually rack up hard ball gets through the midfield and also set up several goals.” Luke Slobin, Head Coach
