Ryan Wong – 2025 Young Official of the Year Finalist

AFL Sydney, in conjunction with Sport NSW, is proud to announce Ryan Wong as a finalist in the 2025 Young Official of the Year as part of the 2024 Community Sport Awards.

The Sport NSW, Community Sports Awards, are intended to recognise the large volunteer workforce and community clubs and teams, recognising their outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport in NSW.

At just 14 years old, Ryan is setting a new standard for young officials in community football. As the first Sydney umpire his age to officiate a Premier Division match, he is not only excelling in performance but also demonstrating remarkable maturity and leadership beyond his years.

Ryan consistently leads by example—never missing training, embracing feedback, and actively seeking development opportunities, including guidance from AFL and VFL-level umpires. His passion for umpiring is evident in his drive to continually improve, with a long-term goal of reaching the AFL ranks.

Despite his youth, Ryan is already a positive influence on his peers, encouraging others through his work ethic, professionalism, and willingness to share knowledge. He listens, learns, and inspires—making him a respected figure among umpires, players, and officials alike.

Ryan’s journey so far proves that leadership isn’t defined by age, but by attitude, commitment, and the ability to uplift those around him.

AFL Sydney would like to congratulate Ryan on his nomination and wish him all the best at the Awards ceremony, next Monday night.
