Brent Johnston wins the Shipley Medal – Nor-West Jets Best & Fairest
Nor-West Jets Club Captain, Brent Johnston, has taken out the Division 3 Best & Fairest ‘Shipley Medal’ with 118 votes at the 2017 Presentation Night at Windsor RSL in front of 120 guests. Brent put the disappointment of losing last year’s Best and Fairest behind him with a stellar 2017.
Johnston had another outstanding season this year as he took over the club’s captaincy. This is Brent’s second club B&F, after as won the U18’s medal in 2012. This year he defeated the reigning ‘Shipley Medalist’ Mitchell Crowe by a massive 60 votes. Crowe had an excellent season finishing 2nd on 58 from only 9 games. 3rd place was James Clarke who had a very consistent season in the ruck and in the midfield.
Former 2014 league Div 3 B&F winner Dave Clinch returned to football again this season and took out the Div5 Best & Fairest ‘Paul Hibbins Medal’ with 99 votes. Dave beat good friend and 2010 ‘Shipley Medallist’ Paul Sherwood who was also returning back to back to footy in 2017. Paul finished 2nd on 89 but was promoted to Division 3 at the end of the season. Full back Adam Braid finished in 3rd place with 44 votes.
