AFL Sydney Men’s Round Six Rising Star nominee

Name:  Edward Cole

Nickname:  Coley

AFL Sydney Club:  Western Suburbs Magpies

Position:  Midfield

Junior Club:  Hobart City

Favourite activity to do outside of football:  Long strolls on the beach, candle lit dinners and watching Married at First Sight.

What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club?  His father Anthony Cole was drafted to the Sydney Swans with pick 17 in the 1991 AFL Draft.

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?  Edward is in the clubs leadership group and leads by example both on and off the field. He is also a fierce competitor.

The night before the game what will they most likely be doing?  Listening to Barry White’s Greatest Hits.

Do they have any pre-game superstitions?   He always calls his  mum and gets her to run him through the ten goals he kicked in the U13’s granny.

Reason for nomination this round:  Ed has been one of most consistent players throughout the season. Last week Ed stood up and played well in a soundly beaten team. He was one of the few that could hold his head up high.

Coach quote on Performance:

“Ed is a consistent always hard at the ball and one of the most courageous players in the team even though he is one of the smallest on the park. Trains as hard as he plays and he has established himself as one of the leaders of the senior team  in a short time at the club”.

Reason for nomination this round:  Becky performed a key role this weekend against Sydney University, tagging AFLW player, Nicola Barr to assist her team mates to win the ball out of the centre and at stoppages. She did this effectively, laying many effective tackles to reduce Sydney University’s fast play.

Coach quote on Performance:

“Becky joined UNSWES Bulldogs in 2018 as she moved to Sydney from Canberra to study at UNSW. Already one of the most committed and conscientious young players,  Becky shows the qualities of a future star and leader. She debuted in Premier Division in Round One, and has not missed selection, playing a vital role in the midfield group. Known for her strong work ethic around the contested ball, Becky is improving each week. Becky is a former junior NSW/ACT Representative and trained in the ACT Academy Program.”
