Updated NSW Health Information – 18 August 2020
Last night the NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, issued a letter to the sport and recreation sector recommending a tightening of restrictions aimed at minimising the risk of COVID-19 transmission in community sport.
A Copy of the letter can be accessed by clicking here.
In the meantime, for community Australian Rules Football, our initial interpretation is that the below recommendations are most important:
- – COVID-19 Safety Plans do not need to be amended at this time. There is no additional information which NSW Health require to be added to Plans. Existing Plans must continue to be adhered to and be located on the premises of the AFL activity at all times.
- – Cease face-to-face social activities relating to community sports (e.g. award ceremonies, end-of-season social gatherings, post-training group dinners);
- – Avoid carpools or bus travel with people from different household groups where possible.
- – For local activities, limit spectators to one parent only, where the child requires parental supervision during the sporting activity.
- – Recommended travel restrictions between regions is likely to impact on some AFL activities, however we are seeking further information to clearly interpret regions in both metropolitan and rural areas across NSW.
We are currently assessing the recommendations and their impact on community Australian Rules Football, and we are also seeking further clarification from the NSW Government.
We will provide a further update in due course at https://aflnswact.com.au/return-to-play/.
