Volunteer of the Year Award nominations open
2020, the year unlike no other!
It started with volunteer fire fighters risking their lives to protect others. Then amidst the COVID-19 crisis, we saw people volunteering their time to look after the vulnerable in then community by taking on roles such as delivering meals, doing shopping, and checking in with others.
And at our footy clubs and NAB AFL Auskick Centres, volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure they could operate in a COVID-Safe environment.
On top this, footy club volunteers went about their normal role giving countless hours each week, month, and year organising player recruitment, sponsorship, uniforms, club functions, playing equipment, coaching sessions, canteens, and match day co-ordination. Many volunteers take on multiple roles to ensure that all club functions are covered for the benefit of club members.
AFL NSW/ACT thanks all club and Auskick volunteers for the invaluable work they do in any given season, and especially so for their efforts in these challenging times. Most of the work that volunteers undertake is done out of the public gaze but is never unappreciated.
We encourage all footy lovers to thank and nominate a club or Auskick volunteer this week for their efforts.
