AFL Sydney Men’s Rising Star – Round One Nominee
Meet our Round One Men’s Rising Star nominee, Ryan Stubbs:
Player Profile
Name: Ryan Stubbs
Nickname: Stubbys
AFL Sydney Club: Manly Warringah ‘Wolves’ AFC
Position: Defence / Half Back
Junior Club: Manly Bombers and Turvey Park
Favourite activity to do outside of football:
Go to the beach with friends.
What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club?
He is always the last one to run out – watch and you’ll notice!
What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?
Stubbs is best described as that “One percenter” guy – always ready to put his hand up to help out, do that bit extra both on and off the field. He has been at every training, does the extra strength and recovery work we expect of our players and then also helps out behind the scenes without any hassles. He is a quiet achiever and the perfect example of a wolf supporting his wolfpack.
The night before the game what will they most likely be doing?
Eating anything and everything except spaghetti Bolognese.
Do they have any pre-game superstitions?
A lot! But top three would be Subway for lunch, always wearing zinc and being the last to run out.
Nomination Details
Reason for nomination this round:
We’re playing up our best junior talent this year, and Ryan has trained consistently and shown up for the Wolfpack.
Coach quote on Performance:
“Stubbs played with absolute composure in his first ever Premier division game. He picked up the speed of the game immediately, and did an incredible job putting pressure on the forwards. He’s done all the preseason work and is in prime condition – this was clear on the field.”
