AFL Sydney Men’s Rising Star – Round Four Nominee

This week’s nominee has quickly earned the praise of his coaches and teammates since joining the senior ranks this season. Bodey plays with a level of courage and intelligence well beyond his years and at just 18 years of age, it’s exciting to think just how good he can get. A key contributor to the Bat’s early success, Bodey was once again one of UTS’s best players in a narrow round four loss to the reigning Premiers, Sydney University.

Position: Half Back

Junior Club: Morningside Panthers/Drummoyne Power/Canada Bay Cannons

Favourite activity to do outside of football: 

Attempting other sports like Basketball, golf and surfing without too much success.

What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club?   

Bodey can kick a goal 9 times out of 10 from the sideline before a game but hasn’t kicked a goal for 3 years.

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?   

On the field Bodey is a skillful backman who often annoys his opposition player out of getting the ball. Off the field Bodey is on the fines committee, gathering funds for end of year celebrations every Thursday night.

The night before the game what will they most likely be doing?  

Eating a bowl of pasta before sleeping for 12 hours.

Do they have any pre-game superstitions?   

He needs to touch the boundary line before walking out on gameday.

Reason for nomination this round: 

A first season in senior football and at 18, Bodey has become the first magnet on the coaches board. Playing with courage and intelligence against the reining premiers, Sydney University, he won every contest, made many tackles and his decision making was huge throughout the game.

He shows outstanding courage and intelligence for someone so young and was one of our best players against a well drilled and physical Sydney University team.
