Inner West Magpies – Premier Division Women’s Coach Expression of Interest
The Inner West Magpies, playing in the AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division is calling for expressions of interest for the position of Senior Women’s Coach for season 2022 and beyond.
About the Club
The Inner West Magpies is the foundation club of Women’s Football in Sydney and was formed in 1999. Originally named the Western Wolves, the club has had a consistent history of competing at the highest level with premierships in 2000, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
In 2019 the Western Wolves and Western Suburbs men’s club merged into the Inner West Magpies. In 2020 the Inner West Magpies Women’s Premier Division team made the AFL Sydney Grand Final and in 2021 was well placed in third position when the season was cancelled. Our Women’s Division Two team in their inaugural season was well placed in fourth position.
Our home ground is Picken Oval in Croydon Park with training also taking place at Wagener Oval in Ashbury. The club also has a gym, an outstanding strength & conditioning program as well as excellent physio support. Inner West Magpies prides itself on being a community club that promotes inclusion and diversity.
Role objectives include:
Develop the football strategy for the women’s program including designing and implementing game plans and overseeing all aspects of coaching the Premier Division team on game days
Coach & nurture players of all abilities ensuring strong player skill development across all on-field positions
Work with the strength & conditioning team to develop a pre-season training program and ongoing player fitness and conditioning
Play a leading role in club culture and player retention
Work with all the senior coaching panels to drive excellence & high performance across the club
Identify needs and assist football operations with recruitment
Maintain the strong connection that exists with local junior clubs and coaches
Report to football operations & the committee on a regular basis throughout the year.
Participate in club functions and special events where required
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
The desire and drive for team success, with a focus on leading the club to a Premiership standard
AFL Level 2 coaching accreditation with a preparedness to qualify higher
Excellent interpersonal skills including leadership and communication in driving the club culture with the players and support staff
Commitment to player development including talent pathways
Experience in establishing a coaching panel including appointing assistant coaches
Ability to engage with the committee, sponsors, AFL Sydney representatives and media to promote the club
