2022 Season Preview- Sydney University
“After the shortened 2021 season, all our teams and players are absolutely raring to go and keen to get back into games! We’ve had strong pre-season numbers, retained some fantastic coaches from 2021 as well as make some exciting new appointments- all teams are looking to make it deep into finals in 2022!” Dani Paszkiewicz, General Manager
Pre-Season
The club has had great pre-season numbers, and despite the impact of COVID and the recent wet weather, all teams have been progressing extremely well and are raring to go for Round 1. The club has managed to retain playing numbers from 2021 and we are excited to be able to be field the same number of teams!

Men’s First Grade Team Preview (Premier Division)
“The pre-season phase of training has gone well with majority of the squad returning and an influx of players from the Colts joining the program. We think we are well placed to compete again this season and look forward to opportunity to hopefully get a full season of games in.” Lindsay Scown, Men’s Senior Head Coach
Player lighting up Pre-Season- | Isaac Hughes has come back to training firing on all cylinders looking to capitalise on his fantastic first season at Sydney Uni. |
Rising Star to watch this Season- |
Louis Wilson is one to watch. A crafty and skilful forward who is dangerous around goals.
|
Big Ins (returning or new player)- | Peter Spurling: after an injury plagued first season at the club last year, the big ruckman is looking to establish himself in the competition |
Big Outs- | Alister Clarke, Aaron Day, Cam Williams |
Team to beat in 2022, why?- | North Shore, after being undefeated in 2021, Lloyd Perris has left them in a good position to continue to be the leader of the pack. |
Women’s First Grade Team Preview (Women’s Premier Division)
“The pre-season has had a good feel to it, despite the disruption caused by COVID and the weather. I’ve been really impressed with the attitude the girls have to learning and improving.” Jon Dyster, Women’s Head Coach
Player lighting up Pre-Season- | There’s been a lot of girls really putting their hand up for Round 1 selection with strong form in the pre-season, it’s hard to single anyone out but it has mainly been the enthusiasm of some of the players from our Div 2 side last season that are keen to step up to Prems this year. |
Rising Star to watch this Season- | We have a number of youngsters that have graduated from playing junior football at our pathways clubs, Newtown, Glebe and Canada Bay. Whilst the wet weather has made it hard to keep training with any consistency I’m expecting big things from these girls once they become comfortable with our systems.. There are also a few girls that only played a couple of games in Prems last season and now have a strong self belief at that level. |
Big Ins (returning or new player)- |
Mac Harley returns from injury this season and is already showing great form on the track.

Team to beat in 2022, why?-
|
East Coast beat every other team in competition last season before the competition was abandoned. I’m guessing they’ll want to pick up where they left off in 2022. |
