Player Profile
Name: Megan Ashford
Nickname: Meg, Megs or Smash
AFL Sydney Club: Sydney University
Position: Midfielder
Junior Club: Northern District Tigers JAFC in AFL South Coast.
What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club?
Meg is a diehard Pies supporter.
What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?
Meg is another player we have had come to us as a USYD student, attending Women’s College this year. Meg had a year off footy last season, as she’d been away, and was really keen to get back playing, which was great for us.
She is a quick learner and is always asking questions and seeking feedback to improve her game. She works hard on field and off field, which has produced real results in increasing the impact she has on the game.

Nomination Details
Reason for nomination this round:
Meg has put in another solid performance this week, winning plenty of hard ball on the inside as well as providing us with physicality around the contest when we needed it most.
She is always there for her teammates and will lead by example. She is very popular amongst the playing group both on and off field and is known for her passion and team mindedness.
Coach quote on Performance:
Meg has found her spot in the midfield as a tough, hard-working on-baller who can lock down any opponent. She has seen amazing improvement in each game as she continues to hone her craft.
As another player we didn’t get until after pre-season when Uni commenced, we immediately saw that Meg had played the game before and we were confident she was someone we could develop.
Meg started in our Div 1 side and began to show more confidence as she got back into the game and found her feet in senior football. She came into the Prems side as a late replacement in Round 6 and has held her place since then with a number of strong performances.
Overall, Meg provides us with great balance in our on ball structure. Her defensive pressure, toughness and team mindedness are all great attributes for an inside midfielder.
As a coaching group we are incredibly proud of Meg’s achievements and see her as a future leader of the club. – Jon Dyster, Women’s Senior Coach
