Meet our Round Sixteen Men’s Rising Star Nominee, Oscar Irwin, Pennant Hills Demons

Player Profile:
Name: Oscar Irwin
Nickname: Ozzy, Crazy Train
Position: Forward Pocket
Junior Club: Westbrook Bulldogs
AFL Sydney Club: Pennant Hills Demons
What is one thing we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club?
Kane Cornes & David King love him on fireball Fridays. Slowly becoming a Melbourne radio celebrity & a diehard Bulldogs man.
What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?
Ozzy is only new to the senior group after a unlucky run with injury over the past 3 seasons from calf & knee issues holding him back, but the senior group has seen the level that he can get too after kicking 5 goals in a quarter of a prelim final a few years ago.
Crazy train is no short of confidence and loves a goal as you can see by his performance on the weekend.
Reason for nomination this round:
Second game of the season and kicked 3 goals, 1 off the back of 10 possessions & 3 tackles.
Coach quote on Performance:
“ Oscar Irwin has hit the ground running in Premier Division football, backing up his impressive debut with another standout performance in his second outing. After sparking us in his first game with a goal from his very first disposal and finishing with 2 majors against UTS, Oscar proved to be the difference against East Coast again in wet conditions.
Playing his small forward role with energy and intent, he slotted three goals, laid three tackles, and added three clearances, showcasing his ability to impact the contest in multiple ways in a game decided by 15-points against our local rival in a tight and tense affair.
It’s remarkable considering his journey back from a serious knee injury that required surgery and kept him sidelined until late June. To step into senior footy and produce back-to-back match-shaping performances is a credit to his resilience, work ethic, and football instincts. As a coaching group, we’re excited to see just how far Oscar can take his game in the coming weeks.”
