AFL Sydney’s Women’s Pocket Profile: Hannah Reitzin from the Newtown Breakaways

Hannah started playing AFL for the Western Suburbs Magpies when she was 9 -10 years old. At the time she joined with her school friend who was playing and her dad was the coach of the team, so they asked her to come down for a training session, and after her first session she watched a few AFLW games and decided she wanted to be like Brittany Bonnici :)

Hannah’s pre-game ritual involves her mum, who goes to all her games, listening to their “Car Hype Playlist”

AFL has had a big impact on Hannah’s life, Hannah mentions her top 3 being:

  1. Footy has been an escape for me to turn to no matter what’s going on in my life. Just showing up to training, games or even going down the park to kick the footy clears my head and distracts me from everything else.
  2. The amount of amazing people and best mates I have made through footy is amazing. Especially having fun nicknames on the field with all of your teammates brings you so much closer together.
  3. Footy has given me some really funny and embarrassing moments (and bruises) that I won’t forget.

Hannah’s highlight with AFL Sydney so far has been playing her first ever game with seniors for the Inner West Magpies, whilst still being in Under 16s for Wests. Hannah started the game off strong, kicking the first goal of the game and smashing the other team in the end! All the girls got around Hannah, making her grow a strong connection to the culture of AFL Sydney and even managed to impress her mum on the sidelines!

Hannah, we love hearing about your journey and hope your continue aspiring to be an AFLW player and developing into a true AFL Sydney phenom!
