Meet our Round Twelve Women’s Rising Star Nominee, Evie Bowie, Sydney University

Player Profile:

Name: Evie Bowie

Nickname: David

Junior Club: Maroubra Saints

AFL Sydney Club: Sydney University

Position: Midfield

What is one thing we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club?

Evie wears the same perfume every game that it is only used for footy.

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field?

Evie is a quiet and unassuming 16 year old, who works hard at training and is a popular player within the group.
She came to our program for a great reason – to play footy with her mates!

Reason for nomination this round:

This was Evie’s 3rd Prems game and again she showed how comfortable she is at this level.
Having played as a winger and off half back in her last two games, due to a late out, Evie was pushed on ball against a highly competitive and strong bodied midfield.
Evie not only provided us with her brilliant run and carry, using her pace to exit stoppages and make F50 entries, but also excelled in the hard stuff, winning 6 clearances and making 5 tackles along with 7 of her possessions being contested, showing she can play as well inside as she can on the outside.

Coach quote on Performance:

“It’s been great to have Evie be a part of our program for the past 2 seasons. Whilst she has been developing well and getting great skills through the Swans academy, having her back now has meant that we have been able to fully integrate her into our systems, and following a few weeks playing in the U20s, she has now taken her opportunities at Prems level putting together back to back quality games. Her ability to break lines with run and carry shows a natural talent but it has been her application to do the hard staff, especially winning contested ball against more seasoned players, that has most impressed the coaches. Her maturity at training and on field are impressive for such a young player and support her making good decisions that allow her to impact play. As Evie continues to develop as a player, building her ball winning abilities and performing consistently at a senior level, we are excited to see what she can achieve in her footy career”. – Jon Dyster (Sydney University – Women’s Premier Division Coach)
