AFL Sydney Women’s Rising Star – Round Four Nominee

This week’s Women’s Rising Star nominee has entered senior footy full steam ahead, making a huge impression over the first four rounds of the season. Olivia Edwards entered the round four match against UNSW-ES full of confidence and hungry for the footy. The young Bomber was putting on an impressive performance until injury struck and cut her day short. The impact Liv had while on the field early in the contest set the Bombers up for victory and earned her the AFL Sydney Women’s Rising Star nomination for Round 4.

AFL Sydney wishes Liv a speedy recovery from injury, and hopes to see the Round 4 nominee tearing it up again in the near future.

Nomination Details

Reason for nomination this round:

Liv has come in from her junior club and stepped straight into senior footy with ease. Her speed and footy IQ to be able to get into the right spots to support her teammates. This week she really started driving the ball forward for us and taking advantage of her speed to not only get the ball into our forward line but to create a number of pressure acts that caused turnovers. What is more impressive is how important she has become for the team and how noticeable it was when she left the field injured.

Coach quote on Performance:

Liv has been stepping up each game and this one was no exception, she was making the wing her own and we knew she was a great running and skillful player. However this week she really showed how tough and hard she is, at times to the detriment to herself. Liv took on every contest and relished being put in the midfield a bit more and just showed how brave she was in not taking a step back at a hardball contest and unfortunately injured herself in the process. The team really missed her after that for the rest of the game.
