Get to know Southern Dingoes Player, President and Founder, Matt Crowe!

Name: Matthew Crowe
AFL Sydney Club: Southern Dingoes Masters AFC
What is your role around the club?
I am President, and Key Forward the team is built around
How did you become involved at the club?
I started the Southern Masters after playing a game for Hay Lions while on holiday. My Father and Grandfather had played for the club, and I wanted to play a game in front of my kids. Realised I missed playing after a few years of retirement and wanted to play Masters so with no financial backing from the club I was involved with, I put a call out, and started the Southern Masters with about 15 people attending a welcome BBQ. The rest is done!
How long have you been involved with the club?
Southern Masters AFC is 4 years old, we have bene the Mighty Southern Dingoes for 2 years.
What drives you most to volunteer at your local AFL Sydney club?
We say it at the club a lot, but volunteering isn’t hard work when we have some many that lift and put in for the club on game day and behind the scenes. We are very lucky to all be of an age where we have an array of skills amongst the 54 members.

I do it to make sure we are a successful club, not from results, but that we really push the fact we are a family club, and

Most memorable moment at the club?
A few milestones that we have reached including getting the team off the ground to start with. Becoming our own club 2 years ago was a big moment which has proven a great success and driven us to our aim of having 50+ members, and families enjoying their Saturdays at Gwawley, even if the kids rarely sit down to watch Dad kick a footy!
What are you missing most about the footy club during lockdown?
Club mates. We are a close-knit bunch of old dudes that like to have a ‘run’ on a Wednesday night to escape witching hour and a beer and BBQ with the opposition.
What TV show is getting you through lockdown?
Sport, or any quick shows we can binge on Netflix like Kim’s convenience
Where is the first place you would visit once travel restrictions lift?
We hope to be able to travel to Byron as a club for the AFL9’s tournament in October, so if we could all behave and allow our weekend playing footy to happen, that would be awesome!

With the family, we will either visit family in Country Vic or Gold Coast

Who is your tip to win the 2021 AFL Premiership and Brownlow medal?
Seems that it will be a Melbourne GF to lose, and maybe a rough Ol Wines for the Brownlow. I think Macca will win the Downlow for the Dingoes
Usual coffee order?
Long Black
Shout out to someone at the club that always lends you a hand (player, coach etc)
Sippa is always doing something before home games.

Big D is always thinking of ways to improve the club, but in all honestly, the club is built on everyone pitching in and all the guys do so much! Even the ladies pitch in when they could relax on the sidelines!
