XBlades AFL Sydney Round 7 Men’s Rising Star – James Carroll (Pennant Hills Demons)

AFL Sydney is pleased to announce that the 2017 Round 7 Rising Star is James Carroll from the Pennant Hills Demons.

James Carroll graduated to the Pennant Hills Senior Club in 2015 after 8 seasons and 121 games of footy at Pennant Hills Juniors. James made his Premier Division debut in Round 18 in 2015 against North Shore Bombers. In 2016 he started the season in Premier Division and played six games before dropping back to the Under 19s to help in their finals campaign. Now twenty years old, James has worked hard on his strength, fitness and skills and his efforts were rewarded with selection to the top side in Round 1 in 2017. The improvement in all aspects of his game over the past season or so means that James is now comfortably holding his spot in the Demons back six in season 2017.

James is now a permanent part of the Demon’s defensive unit. Coach Chris Yard shared his thoughts on James saying:

James is a versatile player with good height, able to play both tall and small and has a good engine that sustains him for the full four quarters. He has a good leap, quick, smart skills and reads the game well from a defensive standpoint. Strong marking and spoiling are features of his play and he is adept at anticipating the opposition’s moves, providing cut-outs and is capable of playing aggressive rebound footy.

James is already making his mark at Pennant Hills, however, he has great potential for improvement as he matures and gets more games of senior footy under his belt. A bright football future beckons. Congratulations James!
