Geddes to officiate in second Premier Division Final
Two time AFL Sydney Umpire of the Year, Matt Geddes will walk out on Saturday for his second XBlades AFL Sydney Premier Division Grand Final after the final umpire appointments were announced at the NSWAFUA presentation night on Tuesday evening.
Geddes, a member of the NEAFL Development Squad, controlled the 2016 decider between East Coast and St George, and will take to the field this Saturday for the clash between Sydney University and Pennant Hills.
Joining Geddes will be two Premier Division Grand Final debutants in Ben Mitchell and Brad Burns.
NEAFL listed umpire Burns, made his AFL Sydney debut in 2017 after relocating from Canberra for study. He made his NEAFL debut in 2013 as a 17 year old and officiated in 12 AFL Sydney and seven NEAFL matches throughout 2017, following injury in the early part of the year.
Mitchell, member of the NEAFL Academy Talent Program, made his Premier Division debut in 2016 and umpired in every round of the 2017 Premier Division season. A born and bred Sydney local, Mitchell has come through the AFL NSW/ACT Talent Pathway and will officiate his first Premier Division decider at the age of 19.
Providing support from the bench as the emergency umpire will be Chris Brackenrig, also a product of the umpiring pathway.
The boundary umpires will be Sam Button (second Premier Division Grand Final), Harrison Hansford (first Premier Division Grand Final) and Max Petrovic (second Premier Division Grand Final). Waving the flags will be Craig Terrey and Brendan Ford, who are both umpiring their first Premier Division Grand Final.
