XBlades AFL Sydney Round 7 Women’s Rising Star – Jacqueline Anyon-Smith (Auburn-Penrith Giants)

AFL Sydney would like to congratulate Auburn-Penrith Giants player Jacqueline Anyon-Smith who has been adjudicated as the Women’s Rising Star for Round 7.

Jacqueline started playing football this year following an outstanding youth career in soccer and futsal. A Sydney West sports Blue winner, Jacqueline has quickly established herself as an indispensable defender in the Auburn-Penrith Premier Division side

Playing primarily at half back, Jacqueline is averaging over 5 rebound 50s and 10 marks per game, many taken running backwards with the flight of the ball into packs of players. Her courage in running backwards into contests is impressive to watch, but doesn’t tell the whole story of her remarkable bravery. Jacqueline is deaf, so she can’t even hear how many people are behind her, yet still sets the team standard for competing in the air, inspiring all her team mates to follow her example.

A humble team player that enthusiastically fulfils her role to the best of her ability, Jacqueline is a remarkable athlete and an asset to our club. Her courage and character make her certain to be a club leader in the near future.

Congrats Jacqueline!
