In 2019, AFL Sydney will be running a Female Coach Recruitment Program.
The aim of the program is to increase the number of registered female grassroots coaches in Sydney and equip them with fundamental coaching skills and knowledge needed to feel confident in volunteering as junior club coaches.
The program will consist of three sessions from February to April, and as part of the program you will be connected with community club mentors and have access to an online network for coaches to interact with throughout the year.
Over the three sessions, the program will cover the following:
- What is AFL? – important that newcomers to the game understand what is going on
- The role of a coach – what responsibilities come with being a coach
- How to structure an effective training session
- Fundamental skills – kicking, marking, handballing, etc.
- Attend a Sydney Swans and/or GIANTS Academy session
- Foundation Coaching Accreditation
