Breakaways announce new coaches for 2018
The Newtown Breakaways have announced their coaching panel for 2018.
Newtown have said that with the growth of the AFL Women’s competition, their club’s 2020 vision has evolved to the aim of being, ‘the home for AFL in the Inner-West, diverse and inclusive, where individual achievement and competitive team success is acclaimed and celebrated’. The Breakaways mission is to be the leading AFLW community club, supporting pathways for female players from juniors to adults into the highest level of achievement. To achieve these goals, the Breakaways have announced a refreshed coaching team for 2018. Clint Hawthorne has been selected as the Head Coach for the Breakaways with responsibility for the on-field performance at all levels. Hawthorne comes to the Breakaways with strong football coaching pedigree, including work with Tim Schmidt at the AFL NSW/ACT Youth Girls and Opens Academies. Originally from Perth, Hawthorne has a lot of playing experience, but says his passion lies in coaching. “It makes the veins in the side of neck stick out and my head go red,” says Hawthorne. “My coaching philosophy is – ‘Game, Team, Player, Club, Coach’. Former Breakaways player, Stacey Cross and newcomer Stuart Goldfinch will join the club as Co-Coaches of the Division Two side.
