How long have you been coaching for?
I’ve been coaching for 6 years.
What drove you to become a coach?
I’d always enjoyed helping with my younger brother’s team at the Glebe Greyhounds. Once the opportunity arose to coach my own team at Knox Grammar, I jumped at it. It was my first job out of school.
Favourite AFL Sydney coaching moment, why?
My first season coaching the U19s at Sydney Uni. It was an amazing group of young men who did everything they possibly could that year to succeed.
Is there an AFL Coach you model your coaching style off? If yes, why?
I wouldn’t say I model my coaching style on anyone in particular in the AFL. I initially learnt a lot from Sydney AFL legend Joey Britton who was my first mentor. I’d say initially I modelled my coaching style off him. I hear a lot about AFL coaches like Chris Fagan being really personable and approachable coaches that deeply care for their players. If the players I coach say that about me, then I’d be pretty happy with that.
Do you have any pre-game coaching superstitions/ routines?
The night before the game I like to watch the footy and order a pizza while I finalise my notes for the game the next day. On game day, I like to get to the oval as early as possible and watch the games beforehand.
What is one piece of advice you would give to young, up and coming coaches?
Take every opportunity you can get. Listen, and soak up all the information you can from all the people around you.
Player most likely to: | ||
Turn up late | Charlie Morgan
First on the Massage Table | Dre Apostolou
Forget their boots | Riley Holmes

Play on from a set shot directly in front | Will Stratford
Attempt a miracle goal instead of kicking to the top of the goal square | Rory Bresnahan
Become a coach | Matt Powys
Who is the biggest character in your team? | Moustafa Sattout
Who is your tip for the 2021 AFL Premiership and to win the Brownlow?
Sydney Swans & Will Gowers
What are you missing most about footy during lockdown?
The people, and that feeling after a win.
What TV show is getting you through lockdown?
I’ve been getting through quite a bit of Parks and Recreation.

Travelling. Live Music. Good food
