AFL Masters is proud to announce that registrations into the 2022 AFL Masters National Carnival being held in Adelaide later this year are officially open.
Since 1982, the AFL Masters Carnival is held in a unique location across Australia. From Saturday 24th September to Sunday 2nd October, the 39th AFL Masters National Carnival will be hosted in Adelaide, SA. It’s the first time Adelaide has hosted the AFL Masters National Carnival since 2014.
Usually attracting over 50 teams across all States and Territories in Australia, players compete on age groups ranging from Over 35s to Over 65s.
Adrian Raftery, the General Manager for AFL Masters said that the AFL Masters Carnival is usually the nation’s biggest football participation event each year and he expects the 2022 AFL Masters Carnival will have the most number of participants ever, surpassing the 1073 who attended the 2017 event in Geelong.
“With the growth of women playing Masters footy – thanks to the promotion of the AFLW and our own AFL Masters QuickKick program – plus a return from two COVID-interrupted years, Adelaide 2022 is all set to be our biggest one yet!
Designed to be easily incorporated into a family holiday, there is a healthy balance of football, tourism options and carnival events for the whole family.
Brenton Wortley, the President of AFL Masters SA said that the Adelaide Organising Committee has prepared an action-packed week of events and festivities.
“From winery tours, a visit to Kangaroo Island and the AFL Masters Golf Classic through to a Race Day, a High Tea at the Adelaide Oval and an amusement activity afternoon at The Beachhouse in Glenelg, we have something for all ages”
Steve Eurell, the President of AFL Masters, said that the National Carnival each year is a great way to see different parts of Australia.
“Get the chance to represent your State or Territory and see the many wonderful attractions – from the Flinders Ranges and the wineries to Kangaroo Island and Hahndorf – that South Australia has to offer.”
Eurell said that over the years players and their spouses get to develop close friendships with your opponents across the country.
“It really is State versus State. Mate versus Mate.”
Raftery said that there is a guarantee that you will see some former AFL players running around during the week with ex-Western Bulldogs legend Tony Liberatore being one.
“We are looking forward to AFL Masters Carnival as its always a lot of fun,’ said the 1990 Brownlow Medallist who has being playing AFL Masters footy since retirement.
